About The Artist

Benedict Douglas-Scott is a multidisciplinary artist working in London alongside teaching Physics in secondary school. He graduated in architecture in 2014 and this has had a profound impact on the sculptural quality of his work.

Studying at Central St. Martins from 2022-2025 he completed an MA in Art and Science, the two major passion of his life. His work explores themes of deep time, longevity, ruins and shared consciousness. Working primarily in sculpture he explores symbolism and archaic imagery through casting in concrete and metal.

He is particularly interested in how certain symbols have endured the ravages of time and separation of geography to become ingrained in the human psyche and explored whether these symbols belong innately to the collective subconscious or have been inherited through repeated societal use.  His jewel-like collage work is smaller and more delicate, exploring themes of nostalgia, religion and the juxtaposition of the ancient and the ultra modern. Through exploring the interplay between these elements he aims to find what is constant and therefore of eternal significance. Through casting and printmaking, Benedict explores the nature of reproduction and copying and what is lost through repeated use, often preferring those elements that are misaligned or deformed by process.
